Marvin D. Tiedt, 87, of Sumner, died Monday, February 26, 2018, at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 2, 2018, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner with Rev. Larry Trachte officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with military rites by Thomas E. Woods Post #223, American Legion of Sumner. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 1, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Friday. Memorials may be made to the family for later designation. 

Marvin Dee, son of Elmer and Elsie (Nolte) Tiedt was born February 5, 1931, in Franklin Township, rural Bremer County. He was baptized at Grove Hill and was confirmed April 1, 1945, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. Marvin received his early education in the rural Wapsie Valley Schools prior to graduating from Sumner High School in 1949. On October 14, 1951, he was united in marriage with Norma Wilharm at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. To this union, four children were born, David, Steven, Marsha, and Linda. Marvin honorably served in the United States Army from 1952-1954 during the Korean Conflict. Upon being honorably discharged in 1954, the family moved back to the Sumner area. Marvin worked at L.W. Pipho Implement in Sumner for several years before co-owning and co-operating Pipho and Tiedt Implement. Following retirement from Pipho and Tiedt Implement, Marvin and Norma worked for Winnebago, where they would deliver motor homes. Marvin was a life long member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner, Thomas E. Woods Post #223, American Legion of Sumner, and served on the Sumner Fire Department from 1957-1961. He enjoyed playing Schafkopf, fishing, camping trips with his family, and spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Norma of Sumner, Marvin is survived by his two sons, David (Sue) Tiedt of Sumner and Steven (Lori) Tiedt of Denver; two daughters, Marsha (Richard) Taylor of Bella Vista, Arkansas and Linda (Dave) Harms of Tripoli; nine grandchildren, Heidi (Matt) Bird, Andy (Christy) Tiedt, Jessica (Tim) Downs, Sierra Tiedt, Mickey Tracy, Mallory (Lyle) Barnett, Ben (Amanda) Tiedt, Ali Harms, and Samara Harms; nine great-grandchildren, Creighton and Ellery Bird, Colette and Libby Downs, Claire, Bella, and Jaxson Tiedt, and Beau and Brody Tiedt; and three sisters-in-law, Dena Tiedt of Sumner; Mary Ann Rudie of Shawano, Wisconsin, and Marion Wilharm of Bremer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Verla Becker-Drollinger; two brothers, Paul and Elmer “Shorty” Tiedt; three sisters-in-law, Beverly Tiedt ,Nina Tiedt, and Regina Wilharm; and six brothers-in-law, Les Becker, Lyle Drollinger, Arnold, Robert, Dorlan, and Leo Wilharm.
